IOTA’s staging network, Shimmer, just started an airdrop effort to give away $1 million to encourage the ecosystem’s growth and new ideas. The reward, which started on January 31, 2024, is meant to boost the flow and use of new money from linked communities through the brand-new Shimmer Bridge.
There is, however, a chance of scams along with the excitement and chance that the airdrop offers. Since this is the case, the Shimmer team has warned the IOTA community that scammers and fraudsters might try to take advantage of the airdrop effort.
Shimmer tweets that the IOTA community should be careful of con artists because there is only one Shimmer EVM IOTA airdrop effort going on at the moment. Just to be safe, they shouldn’t click on any links that aren’t approved.
As another safety step, users should not click on any sketchy links and should not believe any private sites or sources that say they can help them with the airdrop or give them information.
Also, they should always check addresses twice before completing a trade and use a safe wallet that works with the ShimmerEVM network.
Remember that players in the Shimmer airdrop will be able to collect their prizes through the Tide Campaign Board after a phase of confirming, cross-checking, tracking, and results. This phase will end at 3:00 p.m. CET on March 16, 2024, after 45 days of tracking.
The prize will be given out over six weeks, following a plan for earned release. The entire reward pool, which is $1 million in SMR tokens, will be split by the total number of points earned by all users during the tracking time to find the final prize amounts.
As the first week of the $1 million ShimmerEVM airdrop starts, Shimmer shares news about it. DefiLlama data shows that there have been 700 qualified players so far, with 3.44 million TVL coming in through the TVL Bridge and 12 million TVL going to the Shimmer EVM. The Shimmer bridge has also been used to hit 1000 tx/day.
